DESCRIPTION

The Technician-level position as a machinist in the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop operates a wide range of machine tools in the precision fabrication from aerospace-grade metals of prototype / development parts and assemblies, in support of internal customers for research and development projects and contracted programs. The manually or numerically controlled equipment used will include: lathe, mill, press, shear, band saw, and grinders. Requested tasks are verified and evaluated with the Manager and test requester and scheduled in an environment where there are often competing and conflicting needs to be resolved. Job status is reported and reviewed as required with the manager. The selected candidate will report directly to the Manager of the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop as part of the MEL Fabrication Group, operating as a key section of the Mechanical Engineering Directorate within Engineering and Technology for LM Missiles and Fire Control.

Skill/Experience/Education

Mandatory

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Able to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Minimum 6 years technical fabrication experience in a prototype/development environment, with experience in Metal working, Mechanical assemblies, and Composites, while operating in a teaming environment.

  • Demonstrated competence in fabrication of basic steel and aluminum alloys using knee mill, band saw, manual lathe, basic powered hand metal cutting.
  • Must be able to work flex schedule, overtime, evenings, weekends, etc.
  • Capable of scheduling, de-conflicting, and executing multiple technicians activities concurrently.
  • Proficient in computing within a Windows-based MS Office-suite centered environment for communication, scheduling, data processing, and basic data transfer.
  • Demonstrated sound writing and verbal communication skills.
  • High School diploma, or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional specialized technical training equivalent to a technical Associate degree and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned technical tasks and 6 years or more of experience.
  • Ability to lead a team of technical skilled people.


Desired

  • Knowledge of CNC machines and software, CATIA, Creo, Pro E, and G-code programing.
  • GD&T, Mil-Spec Standards,
  • Advanced working knowledge with various metals, layout, cutting, bending, forming.
  • Working knowledge from concept design into product development.
  • Ability to communicate through development preform guidance of working projects and tasking individuals.
  • Current DoD Secret clearance.
